UTC Aerospace Systems today announced that it has been awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract with an initial ceiling of $22.9 million from the U.S. Air Force (USAF) for the DB-110 Airborne Reconnaissance System. Lockheed Martin: new software to simultaneously control multiple UAV types

Lockheed Martin software has been simultaneously flying, on average, at least six unmanned aircraft during every hour of the last 25 years, completing missions as diverse as reconnaissance, inspection, mapping and targeting. The company is now launching VCSI, a new vehicle control software, as the culmination of more than two decades of experience and 1.5 million hours of operational use.

BAE Systems is teaming up with RUAG to offer its 8x8 AMV35 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) to Australian forces who want to equip 225 new-generation reconnaissance and combat vehicles (CRVs for combat reconnaissance vehicles). If the bid from BAE Systems Australia is selected by Canberra, RUAG will provide the outer armor of the future Australian vehicle. The call for tenders for phase 2 of the Land 400 program puts the British in competition with the Germans at Rheinmetall, and in the field of communication we can say that the advantage is at BAE.

Russia’s new high-speed combat helicopter prototype to start flying in 2019

The prototype of the new high-speed combat helicopter being developed by Russian Helicopters rotorcraft manufacturer (part of hi-tech corporation Rostec) for Russia’s Defense Ministry will perform its debut flight in 2019, Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov told TASS on 22 February.

The British Army is seeking the service life of the Challenger 2 main battle tank through to 2035. The current competition opposes two candidates a competition in the framework of its Life Extension Programme (LEP) that opposes two candidates whose vehicles are currently submitted to a 24-month assessment phase due to end this year. A 227-tank market is at stake, with a decision expected for mid-2019.

Third F125 class Frigate Sachsen-Anhalt Starts Sea Trials

The third 125 class frigate, the “Sachsen-Anhalt”, has taken to the sea for the first time. On February 22, 2018 the ship left the shipyard in Hamburg for scheduled in-port trials. The ship’s technical systems and equipment, including its propulsion system, maneuvering behavior and technical operations, will be tested over a period of around two weeks. The trials will take the ship from Hamburg via the river Elbe to the North Sea before returning to Hamburg after completing the test program. In addition to technical specialists from the German defense procurement agency BAAINBw, the testing team from the ARGE F125 consortium and employees of other companies involved, members of the future naval crew are also on board. Following the “Baden-Württemberg” and the “Nordrhein-Westfalen”, the “Sachsen-Anhalt” is now the third of the F125 class frigates to take to the open seas.

The US Army Contracting Command has awarded Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin JV, Tucson, Arizona, a $94.9 million modification (PZ0095) to foreign military sales (France, Taiwan, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, and Lithuania) contract W31P4Q-13-C-0129 for Javelin weapon system deliverables including rounds, command launch units, and battery coolant unit spares. Work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona, with an estimated completion date of August 31, 2020.
